I'm a recovering drug addict. You name it I've done it. I've struggled with my sobriety for years and I'm only 17. All I've seen though, has only made me want to help others. I know I'm young but it's not going to stop me. I plan on going to school for 12 years to get a PhD in psychology. While I'm in school, I'm going to set up a non-profit organization to help struggling teens with any problems they're facing, but especially drug addiction. I've never been so driven to accomplish something. I'm very passionate about this. I'm not doing it for the money either like most people. I'm investing all I have into this and if I lose everything doing it, well at least I've made a difference in someones life. I went through everything alone, and no one should have to. I now know things that could have saved me from a lot and I want to share what I know with kids that are on the same path that I was. If my pain and suffering and hardships can help someone in the future then that's what I want to happen. I know i have a long road ahead of me, but one day I'll be there. If I can save just one kid, then my life would mean something.

I received this email today from a man through Twitter. Take a look.

I'm 30yrs old and finally decided further my education and go back to school for a very rewarding career, a career in Orthodontics. This is a career path that I've thought about many years ago but forgot about it over time, partially because of life experiences. The good thing is I'm more focused now then ever to complete this goal, sort of like a challenge to myself, it is a challenge to myself.
Here is what it will take to become a Orthodontist or Prosthodontist; 4yrs of college majoring in Science such as Biology, Chemistry or some other type of Science etc. You must be great in math and science. After achieving your Bachelor of Science you have to 'APPLY' to dental school. Do you understand....APPLY! Just because you have good grades and money or financial aid to cover the schooling doesn't mean your qualified to be admitted to dental school. Dental schools look at more than grades and money to be accepted, they look for the dedication. Here is UCLA Dentistry admission requirements to give you an idea of what it takes. Mind you there are about 1,800-2,000 applicants that apply to dental school, there are only 88 seats available. That should give you an idea of the competition aside from the requirements, here's the website http://www.dentistry.ucla.edu:8000/Dentistry/admissions/dds-degree/traditional/program-overview. This is the program just to be a Dentist. If you want to specialize and be an Orthodontist or Prosthodontist there is additional schooling which can take anywhere from 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 years to complete....on top of the eight years it takes to become a Dentist. That's an additional $12,000 a quarter, you add it all up!
At my age I'm excited, ambitious and have the drive to complete it. On the other hand, along with the negativity from people and the time it takes to complete all this step by step, I'm in for a long ride. If 'God Willing' I will complete this and make a decent living for my kids and myself. Hopefully what I'm doing will produce more doctors in the family, hopefully they will want to be like their daddy and we can build a family practice that will outlast money and property when I pass.
